FISCHLI & WEISS, Untitled (Mushroom), 2006

PETER FISCHLI and DAVID WEISS, Untitled (Mushroom), 2006
50 x 60 cm / 20 24 inches
photograph
edition 120
recto: signed, dated, numbered

Untitled (Mushroom) is taken from a series of photographs of ferns, fungi, flowers, insects, grasses and undergrowth. Each photograph is a double exposure, made by either Peter Fischli or David Weiss taking pictures and then handing the camera over to the other, or maybe not, rewinding the film, and shooting again on the same roll of film. The result is a kaleidoscopic world of double-vision. A kind of what they called “concentrated daydreaming”—real-time glimpses into daily life in Zurich: a mountain sunrise, a restaurant chef in his kitchen, sanitation workers, a bicycle race, and so here mushrooms in nature.

After the funeral of her mother in 2006, Marijke van Warmerdam made photos of the flowers on her grave. In the following weeks she recorded the stages of withering, while the winter weather also brought some snow. In On and on the sequence of the photos is reversed, the intention being to turn back time.

When Marijke van Warmerdam was commissioned to make a badge for the IKON Gallery in Birmingham, she based her design on the spots from a cup and saucer she has used for a mobile with rotating photos called Take a break. She compares a working day to a holiday and so she made two badges representing both kinds of days. The printed light reflections on each badge suggest that the circular form is an air bubble. Margin Scheme

With this plain yellow wallpaper Olivier Mosset continues his exploration of monochromes, a smooth manufactured plane with no more than one colour and its materiality. Although this wallpaper too is meant to be attached to a wall creating a monochrome colour field, here the roll could be looked at as a monochrome sculpture by Olivier Mosset. As a kind of DIY edition quite a few rolls have been used to create a monochrome wall in yellow by Olivier Mosset. Hence quite uncommon.
