Moritz Ebinger is known for connecting anything with everything, a bit like André Breton’s method of the écriture automatique. He has made many wall installations with curly crawling creatures that disappear in words and the other way around. He loves to get people involved in his art, activities and actions. The golden record ‘Mi fen ‘na Gowtu’ (Surinam for ‘Let’s go to the gold’ and notice that every round of the record player’s needle deteriorates the grooves!) shows his remarkable generosity towards not only the accumulation of his images already produced but also to people around him. KvG

This golden record contains conversations of a Swiss banker, the owner of a goldmine, a quick silver smugler, a herb-doctor, a Buddha monk and musicians/artists who were commissioned by Moritz Ebinger to participate in this project by integrating Gold in their contributions. Participating artists, among others: The Suprematist Guitar Ensemble, Dick el Demasiado, Bo Kisser, Boompje Trie, Sixton Creeps, FLG Banda Bachata, Klaske Oenema & Harm Wierda, Barney de Krijger and Bigeneric aka Marco Repetto (Marco is the artistic genius of ‘Ich möchte ein Eisbär sein im kalten Polar’ for Grauzone).

In the summer of 2013 The Vinyl Factory collaborated with Deller on the soundtrack to ‘English Magic’, his film work exhibited in Venice in the same year; for which the music is composed of three cover versions of classic British songs: ‘Voodoo Ray’, ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ (by David Bowie) and ‘Symphony in D Minor’ (by Ralph Vaughan Williams) and played by the Melodians Steel Orchestra, an English/Trinidadian steel band, and produced by Deller at Abbey Road Studios.
The Melodians Steel Orchestra performed at both the Pavilion’s official inauguration on the 29th May 2013 and later that evening at The Vinyl Factory & British Council party on the Isla Vignole, Venice, alongside with Scottish DJ/duo Optimo, long-time friends and collaborators with Deller. A remix of three track 12″ features with vocal, instrumental and bonus beats by Scottish DJ/duo Optimo.
Inspired by this party, here JD Twitch from Optimo has remixed ‘Voodoo Ray’ into a joyous piano-house stomper in a vein similar to the now hard-to-find Frankie Knuckles re-work from back in the day, with vocals from the Melodians.

In 2001 The Vinyl Factory began as a pressing company after purchasing the manufacturing equipment from EMI. For two years, they completed orders left over from EMI’s company, which helped to keep and maintain a loyal customer base. In 2008, it expanded into a record label. The Vinyl Factory has presented solo exhibitions by Ragnar Kjartansson, Ryoji Ikeda, Carsten Nicolai, a.o.

The music on this vinyl compilation reflects the Toilet Paper magazine run by Maurizio Cattelan featuring music by a cast including Malcolm McLaren, Gene Vincent, Pierre Schaeffer and Judy Garland.

Cattelan’s art practice is known for one as making jokes about others. In 1995 he taxidermied horses, donkeys, mice and dogs. One of his best known sculptures, ‘La Nona Ora’ consists of an wax cast effigy of Pope John Paul II in full ceremonial dress being crushed by a meteor. Another of Cattelan’s quirks is his use of a ‘stand-in’ in media interviews with non-sensical explanations.
