Caravaggio’s painting Sepulture of Santa Lucia, which hangs in the Regional Museum of Palazzo Bellomo in Syracuse, prompted Marlene Dumas and Marijke van Warmerdam to make works on the legend of martyr Santa Lucia. Both ‘Lucia’ of Dumas and ‘Luciaaaa!’ of Van Warmerdam is a reproduction in high quality print of one of the works they made for their duo exhibition ‘Con vista al celestiale’ in Syracuse.
Marijke van Warmerdam thought that Lucia’s calling to God and God’s calling to Lucia could best be expressed with the aid of a Jacob’s ladder. She says: ‘A Jacob’s ladder descends from heaven and God calls: “Luciaaaa!” I placed her name in gold letters upside-down on the print, actually as seen through the eyes of God.’

Collection Lambert opened its doors in June 2000 during the celebrations for ‘Avignon – European Cultural Capital’. With a view to making a future donation, gallerist and collector Yvon Lambert decided to place on loan 350 artworks. Housed in an 18th century mansion, these works are borrowed from his personal collection that at this stage comprises more than 1200 artworks dating from the 1960s to the present day. The event ‘À fripon fripon et demi’ (English translation: ‘How to catch a thief with a thief’) focused on children and their art, with a new room in the museum specially devoted to their work. For the occasion, the Collection Lambert looked back over four years of educational initiatives with projects by On Kawara, Claude Lévêque and Joey Kötting.

In May 2002, Gerhard Richter photographed 216 details of his “Abstraktes Bild Nr 648-2”, 1987. Working over a period of several weeks, Richter combined these 10 x 15 cm details with 165 texts on the Iraq war, published in the German FAZ newspaper on March 20 and 21. ‘War Cut’ follows an ever denser rhythm in which texts and gaps take up the same amount of space as the pictures, creating a strictly composed work of open and closed layouts and their mirror images. A conceptual artist’s book about the war in Iraq and one may say war in general communicated through newspapers.

“Viktor & Rolf liked my work for years and asked me to design something sweet for men. In the end they came to my studio and took a design for a T-shirt from 1992 – an all-over flower pattern which had in it the word “good” with rays around it” said Lily van der Stokker in an interview with John Waters in 2010.

In 2003 Viktor & Rolf produced for preorders and image reasons a shirt, sweater, bumber jacket, trousers, hand bag, tie, cap with a design of Lily van der Stokker. After the introduction for retailers extremely small orders were taken and later on the line was never taken into production; hence very few items of these products can be found on the market.

Nowadays during a live streaming customers can click on any garment they want to order as soon as production is completed. Those orders (with payment) contain valuable ‘consumer feedback’ for fashion houses. Manufacturers know exactly how popular a particular garment may become. Moreover, a preorder with advance says much more than a “like” on Facebook, that not necessarily means a purchase intent.
