In the second half of the 1980s, Carsten Höller began creating art that commented on human behavior. He was of the opinion that people needed to wear a life jacket for a safer life. ‘They need it’, he told me then in a rather cryptic way. To that end, he produced a limited edition of a cardboard box containing a life jacket. At that time, you often saw him wearing a bright yellow, fluorescent life jacket.
