Hi Everyone,

Here is info for March’s studio rent edition.

It is tracing paper.

I have traced with pen 35 scratches on a board that my cat has scratched.

It is March, and this month I turn 35.

So this is using cat scratches to count the years!

This is actually part of the process of making another work, which should be done in some months… Where I needed to get a trace of a cat scratch to make a gold foil stamp of it…

This edition was never completed; circa 50 copies were made. Here a used copy with sticker residues is shown.

The prints and paintings (1991-present) with the name Maxi-Color are part of a large group of works in which an industrial product is appropriated by the artist. On the one hand, this group of works can be divided into ‘appropriation art’ and, on the other hand, into a product that is ‘already made’ as Marcel Duchamps put it. An ‘objet trouvé’ as the colour book featured above.

Jonathan Monk says that ‘once something has been done, it can be done again in a different colour’. Here repetition has been applied by doing a hand stamp twice leading to a kind of romantic image making.

In this picture the cars of Olivier Mosset and Steven Parrino are parked in front of their adjacent studios in Brooklyn. This picture was taken in 1990 and Mosset and Parrino called it their “Studio photo” ever since.

This is a tote bag with a syllogistic quote from the artist: ‘Art is shit. Art galleries are toilets. Curators are toilet attendants. Artists are bullshitters.’ Apparently in the eyes of Martin Creed galleries show shit and curators are therefore toilet attendants, while artists produce shit. He says: ‘The more I work, the more I think I don’t know what I am doing. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. It is like sweat or shit. It comes out as I go along …’.
