Sunflower Seeds was an installation made up of ten million unique porcelain sunflower seeds. However realistic they may seem, these life-sized sunflower seed husks are in fact intricately hand-crafted in porcelain. Each seed has been individually sculpted and painted by specialists working in small-scale workshops in the Chinese city of Jingdezhen. Far from being industrially produced, they are the effort of sixteen hundred inhabitants with skilled hands. The seeds were displayed at Tate Modern Turbine Hall’s vast industrial space, the 100 million seeds formed a seemingly infinite landscape.

Tauba Auerbach plays in a phenomenological way with readability and abstraction, permeability and solidity – phenomena that she unifies within surfaces and volumes. Here in her clockwork multiple she has compressed the traditional clock plate with Roman figures from I-XII into figures from I – XXIII plus a nil position representing figure XXIV.

Untitled (sand mailed by the artist’s mother from California) is a work that consists of a posted envelope of sand from the Californian beach by the artist’s former home, where his mother still resides. Originally the artist’s mother sends this sand by post to the buyer. This same beach and sand is a repetitive motif for Horvitz and has been used for several projects including: Rarely seen Bas Jan Ader, Disappear, Public Access, The Distance of a Day and his Studio Rent Editions.

In 2002 Gary Hume painted Yellow Window. In 2013 he multiplied one window a thousand times, hence the title 1000 Windows. This edition comes in original wrapping.

The music on this vinyl compilation reflects the Toilet Paper magazine run by Maurizio Cattelan featuring music by a cast including Malcolm McLaren, Gene Vincent, Pierre Schaeffer and Judy Garland.
Cattelan’s art practice is known for one as making jokes about others. In 1995 he taxidermied horses, donkeys, mice and dogs. One of his best known sculptures, ‘La Nona Ora’ consists of an wax cast effigy of Pope John Paul II in full ceremonial dress being crushed by a meteor. Another of Cattelan’s quirks is his use of a ‘stand-in’ in media interviews with non-sensical explanations.
