This catalogue was published on behalf of Klaas Kloosterboer’s solo exhibition “The Rules & The Game” in Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. This publication is apparently designed as an atmosphere experience added to the exhibition and not so much about reproductions of the works on display. This gives it the feel of an artist’s book, which is not the case.

In 2002 Klaas Kloosterboer visited the renovated men’s toilet rooms at Schiphol Airport and was confronted with newly designed urinals that depict a fly target embossed on the porcelain. It matched fully with his ideas on occupying empty spaces on canvasses he was dealing with as a painter. Obviously this sight was a good reason to picture it for a photo work that he used for the cover of this publication.

In 2008 Klaas Kloosterboer introduced for the first time curtains in his works in the exhibition ‘Partij – Wederpartij’. A theatrical setting of his white and black sprayed fabric paintings gave an exceptional movement to the gallery space, and in fact to his oeuvre. He later used this idea in the gigantic rotating installation in the Submarine Wharf / Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam in 2009.

For his show in Galerie van Gelder an invitation card was designed by the artist of which he has made a card board box (see multiple above) as part of his contribution to the group exhibition ‘After Gerolama Cardano’s suspension’ at Galerie van Gelder in Amsterdam.
