In 1993 curator Moritz Küng was invited to make a show in Galerie van Gelder & AP. For that he invited graphic designers Mevis & Van Deursen (Amsterdam) to make an announcement poster for an exhibition called ‘Uitnodiging!’. The announcement poster of Mevis & Van Deursen shows a crying black woman that could be understood as one that is either crying or laughing, or both perhaps. For the exhibition itself another poster was designed depicting a woman wearing sun glasses.

Each artist’s book contains 50 pages of color photographs documenting the creation of an edition of Jonathan Monk posters. All ten books come in different couver colours, in original cellophane wrapping. No wonder Jonathan Monk says during a studio interview by U. G. Lambert, 26 April 2012: “… Once something has been done, it can be done again in a different colour.” This stack of ten books in different colours demonstrate this idea, in an almost sculptural way.

Hreinn Fridfinnsson showed works in Galerie Balderich together with close friends/colleagues Sigurdur Gudmundsson, Kristjan Gudmundsson, Douwe Jan Bakker, Pieter Holstein and Thordur Ben Sveinsson. This poster is proof of the first group exhibition he had, after he had a solo show in Galerie Fignal in Haarlem, a gallery he founded himself in his home. Later on he moved to Amsterdam, including his home gallery meant for his closest friends to show some art works mainly in a corridor of his living room. KvG

In the nineties Sigurdur Gudmundsson gave this book to me. It was his last copy that missed its cover. It is the first edition of Ofrím’ (English translation: ‘Over-rhyme’) with subtitle ‘Ljód eftir Sigurd Gudmundsson’. This was skipped in the second edition.
