This pin has the sparkling emanation of a broche and was produced for promotional reasons. It was sent to clients of the Rosa Esman Gallery in New York with the aim to draw attention to the solo exhibition of Sol Lewitt, at that time written as Sol Le Witt. The names of “Sol Le Witt” and “Rosa Esman Gallery” are printed on the reverse.
Sol LeWitt made this Wall Drawing #821 in 1982. It bears the title A Square Divided Horizontally and Vertically into Four Equal Parts, Each with a Different Direction of Alternating Parallel Bands of Lines. and became a signature motif with the pictorial power of a traffic sign.
