When this item with Truisms was distributed on behalf of Jenny Holzer’s solo exhibition at Foundation Beyeler in 2009, for many new owners it was apparently quite tempting to peel off one or more of these stickers. By now, this bag with all the stickers intact has become a rarity. Once a sticker is peeled off Holzer’s one-liners appear to be printed under the stickers. This bag is intact and since almost two decades this shopping bag is extremely difficult to find. Note that both sides of the bag are provided with stickers.

A.R. Penck is known for expressionistic paintings with primitive sign gestures spread all over the surface in a fragmented manner. For decades he has made quite some prints in various techniques. ‘Bananenelephant’ is one of the most remarkable large prints A.R. Penck has ever made.
