This booklet is definitely an artist’s edition. At least, this catalogue has that feel with its series of solely graphical images. An ultra short CV at the end of the booklet is a kind of spoiler. Gallerist Anders Tornberg worked closely together with artists like Gerald Rockenschaub. Hence Rockenschaub made the design for this publication and agreed on having a CV included.

 

Gerwald Rockenschaub is painter, techno artist and DJ. He is known for his geometrical and constructed oil paintings and sculptures of the early 1980s, being part of the Neo-Geo movement. In 1985 he made a similar painting (30 x 20 cm) with a white on black Neo-Geo lettering of which the first letter of his initials is mirrored.

“War Is Over, if you want it” is a 1969 poster and billboard action that inspired so much political action that the president of the United States Lyndon B. Johnson sought to have British Yoko Ono and John Lennon deported for fear that they would undermine his foreign policy and political fortunes.

At the lower left corner the following text is written in pencil: Sonja Carnaby Street London 1969.

This version of the poster with sub-text ‘Love and Piece from John & Yoko’ is in the collection of MoMA / Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA. In 1969 Yoko Ono and John Lennon showed the poster with the sub-text ‘Happy Christmas from John & Yoko’.

In the 90’s Jenny Holzer texts works were extreme, aggressive, contradictory or even an open door and were acclaimed for its visual one-liners on e.g. female victims of war that were more a statement than poetry. KvG

In 1990 she was awarded the Golden Lion Prize at the Venice Biennale.
